Pep vs criteria to judge a soccer coach
by SCOANGERS (2023-05-23 21:59:50)

Someone said this is about 4 dimensions

1) Titles : the results the number of trophies
2) Style of football or the many styles his teams are playing
3) Progress of individual players within the team (could be young players to 100m gbp players)
4) Reference - coach set the mark on how other position themselves

I feel on the 4 criteria Pep as early as Barca has set up a mark - I know he can be arrogant and maybe a bit a tat egocentric

One story at ManCiti 2016 his first year , he stopped the practice and said « this is not acceptable when the ball come transversal from the right control should be on your left foot as you gain 1/2 second) same opposite … « during an hour their did lateral passes like in soccer school … this is purist approach .

Guardiola may not be Sacchi Rinus Michel or Ferguson but he is very close

Nice post - I hate saying it, but he is undisputable

Full agreeance on the criteria, and if I were a neutral, his teams were more attractive to watch than Jose's pragmatism, and more sustainable than Klopp's intensity.

I'd have a hard time pulling for a Golden Retriever that went from Barca to a petroclub (it is strange seeing Abu Dhabi and Qatar's differing approaches to building their clubs), let alone a man of that level of confidence as you alluded, yet his brilliance cannot be argued against. That Barca/Madrid/La Furia Roja run of dominance may never be duplicated in my lifetime, and it's hard to hate guys like Messi, Iniesta, and KDB even if I want their clubs to go 0-38. Your last point is something that would never happen in the US system, but I'd love to see someone with that sort of approach start building our guys around that, as I think we are starting to get technically capable (of course, lots of room to improve) where we don't have to bunker down and counter but can instead attack all but the very best teams.

After finally getting his treble this year, do you think he will take the Spain job?

There’s hope
