RIP Francesco Baresi - Kevin Keegan
by SCOANGERS (2026-07-31 10:50:00)

Kevin Keegan died on Monday 20th July. Franco Baresi died yesterday. Both of them a defender and a forward are part of my chilhood memories.

I linked the semi final of St Etienne vs Liverpool in 77. Would suggest to watch Keegan scores inside two minutes then Bathenay lefty shot to levels it.
Keegan cost Liverpool £33,000 from the 4th Division and made himself a two-time Ballon d'Or winner — by leaving. Six years at Anfield: 322 matches, 100 goals, 88 assists, 2 UEFA Cups, and the European Cup in Rome in 1977. He was one the first player to leave his country to play abroad (to Hamburg SV) . Both his Ballons d'Or were won there. And the 1978 in a year when England had not even qualified for the World Cup.

Baresi was for me the elegance - rejected by Inter at fourteen, joined AC Milan, and never left. 20 years. 719 games. Captain at 22. He even stayed when they went down to Serie B. Twice. He was the absolute elegance as a defender. His biggest drama is to have missed the first penalty in the 94 final against Brasil.

Rest well, both.
