The other color jersey is the libero.

It's a position with special substitution rules that only ever plays in the backcourt -- as such, the skills required are passing and defense, and the libero is typically subbed in for a frontcourt specialist (usually middle blocker, but sometimes outside hitter) when it is their turn in the backcourt.

The exact rules are a bit tricky, and you can look them up -- it took me a full season of calling games for the SID before I really had it down -- but that's the gist.
