for the men at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Top 2 teams auto qualify for the finals in Terre Haute. Runner from Cincy was out in front by a few seconds and then a huge pack of 30 or so runners mostly from ND, Purdue, WI, and Michigan. All bunched within a second or two. ND led purdue through 4k fell behind at 6 and 8k but then rallied and almost got them at the wire. Lost by 5 spots by came in 2nd to qualify for next week. They beat Michigan for the 2nd auto qualifier by (wait for it) 1 spot. Eight places separated First from fourth. The ND mens team is very young and all 7 runners were in the top 30. Future is bright.

Women struggled to a fifth place fininsh and are likely done for the year. Anna Roher was fifth overall and will run as an individual.

ND men beat UM by 1 point, IU by two points. Go Irish!

Both Michigan and IU received at-large bids.

By the way, the Lets Run website analysis predicts that ...

... the Irish women's team will be invited to nationals.

And Lets Run was correct -- Irish women are indeed in! *

Young Irish team did very well against very strong...

... opposition. Interesting decision by Wisconsin to hold back their #2 who had a slight calf injury. They figured that they had enough points to be added to the field for nationals, so decided to give him another week to recover.

Here's hoping some of the projections for 5 spots

coming from the Great Lakes region for women pan out. Ladies only graduate Anna this year. Bright future ahead.
