I thought the ladies looked a bit sluggish but give credit to Valpo. At the end of the fourth set ND got a call reversed which allowed them to win that set 26-24 to take the match to a 5th set.

ND looked like they were playing their first match of 2021

while Valpo was playing their eighth. ND's talent prevailed in the end over Valpo's consistent performance. This was a good warm-up for the Irish who were tested (almost lost the match in the 4th set), and now have a week to prepare for Louisville.
Why hadn't ND played and Valpo played 7?

Is the ACC limiting out of conference matches?
The Missouri Valley Conference did not play any fall matches

and began conference play in January. The ACC will resume conference play at the end of February. With ND having a February start to classes, I assume the coaching staff decided to give the players most of January off before resuming practice. This is similar to the amount of time they have for pre-season practice in August. und.com doesn't provide much information beyond basic game reports for sports other than football and basketball teams.
