Irish Alum to Olympic games in T&F?

Molly Seidel in on the team in the marathon based on last year's trails. However, Molly Huddle isn't looking good for a spot. That she didn't do well at the marathon trials was not a surprise, as she never has done particularly well at that distance. However, she dropped out of a 5K track race earlier this year and underperformed in another last weekend. Considering that there is a lot of good young talent, she might not make it in the 5K or 10K despite her tactical savvy.

However our T&F/XC star Yared Nuguse went out to Oregon last weekend and beat U of O stars Teare and Hocker in a 1500 on their own track. This is even more remarkable because it was his first track 1500 since he won the NCAA championship in an upset two years ago. While the U of O guys had been sharpening up in the indoor track season, Nuguse ran XC. The 1500 is a tough event to predict for the trials because there are heats, many competitors, and you have to get your tactics just right. But at this point, he has to be considered a contender. Also, given that Olympic 5000 often is a tactical race decided by a big kick and Yared has great closing speed, he could try that event.

There's more to say about Nuguse.
