Irish Men Win ACC Title in XC for 3rd Time in Last 4 Years

Championships were held on Burke Golf Course...first time for the Irish to host.

Three Irish finished in the top-five including runner-up Dylan Jacobs (23:23.0), Danny Kilrea (4th – 23:32.6) and Yared Nuguse (5th - 23:38.3). Nuguse ran his first race of the year since his quad injury at the Olympics. His coach, Sean Carlson, called it a great "rust buster" and expects him to get stronger with NCAA qualifying races and the NCAA itself. Irish took 2nd in the NCAA's last year and most of that team has returned.

Carlson and Head Track and CC coach Matt Sparks have done a great job of finding an nurturing talent with men's cross country and long distance.

Women finished fifth and Maddy Denner earned a ninth-place finish (20:33.2) while Olivia Markezich (12th – 20:40.8) also received All-ACC status.

BTW, Olympic Martathon Bronze Medalist Molly Seidel will run her first marathon since Japan, competing in the NYC marathon. I'll try to see her because my son will be looking to break 3 hours this year (he ran for Stanford Hall at ND).

Aerial views of the Autumn tree colors at Burke were great, but a lot of green in front at the end was better.
Great Lakes Regional for the NCAA should be a battle...

... between ND and Wisconsin. ND scored 32 points in winning the ACC. Wisconsin scored 27 in winning the Big Ten.
If ND goes full strength, they should handle WIsconsin

The Big 10 is very weak this year, the WI victory is not very informative, especially on the POS curse at Penn State.

Good information. Thank you for posting. I enjoy cross country and track, and normally they receive little attention on these boards.

He looked good and kept a steady pace throughout. I suspect/hope he'll push a bit more at the end in the NCAA qualifying race next week with the idea of letting loose in the NCAA's.

Pretty stacked team.

BTW, N. Carolina State is same in women's ACC. Their top two finishers are from upstate NY: we used to recruit there (Molly Huddle). Let's go back!
