Volley Talk Rumors Point to ND Announcing New VB Coach Soon

No poster who stated that an announcement is imminent has named names, but Brittany Dildine of Wisconsin seems to be a real contender. She assisted head coach Kelly Sheffield for four seasons at Dayton and followed him to Wisconsin for nine seasons culminating in their recent national championship. Brittany is their recruiting coordinator and coaches their back row players and passing schemes. She was voted the 2021 assistant coach of the year by AVCA, the national coaching association.

Brittany is an Indiana native who played volleyball and basketball at Purdue. I have linked a bio.

My deduction from extensive rumor reading is that ND has made a good hire and will announce it as soon as the person has cleared the O'Leary Protocols.

Salima is a brand name in volleyball circles and it is believed that ND will be paying her at the highest level of collegiate head coaches.

Looks good! *

after spending some time in the transfer portal. Perhaps she was informed of the pending coaching hire and decided to stay with the Irish?

Need to re-recruit others in portal if not too late

Losing Miller, Hamilton, and Meuth already puts us in a bad position

Sydney Bent and Sammi Lockwood have returned to ND

according to posters on Volley Talk. If Charley Niego were to return and the 2022 signees kept on board, that would give Coach Rockwell enough players to work with for the upcoming season as well as having room for several 2023 recruits. It will be interesting to see which assistant coaches she adds to the staff. She has great connections within the volleyball coaching world because of her coaching history and broadcasting work.

Neither of those 2 played very much

But I guess at this point, numbers are important

Bent was a top player during her first two seasons before

injuries struck. She seemed to gain some playing time late in 2021, so perhaps she will have some upside for her fifth year.

As you noted, just having enough players to practice this spring will help. Lockwood is needed for her height in the middle for the near future. Perhaps the new coaching staff can help her fulfill her potential.
