At least enough to practice

Rockwell also has a challenge to recruit.

A program that looked to be headed in the right direction took an unexpected broadside. Still not sure what happened, and maybe never will.

Well-Put: "Unexpected Broadside"

The program was in the right direction under Jim McLaughlin and chief assistant Mike Johnson. And even seemed to be moving in the right direction when McLaughlin had to retire due to physical issues.

But that broadside was huge. Was it happening prior to/because of Johnson? Or because of the action (not renewing his contract)? Or a combination of both (as in, this place is now officially a mess, let's get out).

But Swarbrick has swung for the fences here. At the very least, we'll get to see Rockwell's coaching acumen with such disparate parts. Then, as MPG notes, see if she can pick it up in the 2024 cycle (can't see much impact in 2023).

The 2024 recruiting class will be a key for Coach Rockwell.

Her name is significant enough in volleyball circles that many top prospects will be glad to speak with her and their recruitment is now in full swing. Can she bring a couple of top 25 prospects to ND each year?

She has a late start on the 2023 class, but we'll see if she can steal one or two by the November signing period...

She has at least one commit for 2024 now.

Mallory Bohl (Legacy VB Club, Saline, MI). I guess CJ Carr (2024 QB commit in football) can fist bump each other in the halls at school.
