The women swept the top spot in each weapon yesterday, as well. With Sedna Gandhi winning epee, Atara Greenbaum in saber with a remarkable comeback and Josephina Conway undefeated on the day in foil.

Dramatic finish for women - underwhelming Sunday for men

After a domininant performance individually on Saturday the men beat BC and Duke, but lost to North Carolina on Sunday for a 2nd place finish on the day.

The women on the other hand had a dramatic finish to win the ACC Championship. They had a fence off against Duke where there was one bout to 5 touches in each weapon happening simultaneously and the team that won the best 2 out of 3 would be the champion. Delsoin lost a closely contested saber bout 5-4 and then Pirkowski won in epee 5-3 a few minutes later. Conway was still fencing at that point and ended up winning that bout 5-3, giving the women the 2024 ACC Championship.

Linked article inaccuracies

I didn't read the article closely and typed information from memory, but saw at least two inaccuracies in the article when I read it more closely. First, Pirkowski won 5-3, not 5-1, in the fence off. Second, women's saber went 18-9 on the day, not foil.

Also of note, Conway did not fence Sunday until subbed in for the last bout of the day which was in the head to head loss to Duke, which she won 5-1 and then won the fence off foil bout against Duke 5-3.

Interestingly, the official scoring that I linked here inaccurately notes that Conway lost the last bout 5-1 when, in fact, she won 5-1. There might be other inaccuracies in the official scoring.

The Conway "loss" to Shen is now accurately recorded as a 5-1 win.
