The current conference alignments are primarily or exclusively based on football revenue (or basketball revenue if the school doesn't play football). Teams with a large number of games and large squads are money sinks, especially after the two West Coast schools entered the ACC. It's especially true if those teams are not nationally-ranked. I hope and don't expect ND to drop sports in the near term - hard to defend with the revenue we receive.
