Domerduck: question for you about 2028 Olympic T&F trials.

I know they haven't announced the location yet. Do you think it will be at Harward Field and, if so, will there more people at those than normally appear at the NCAA track and field outdoor championships because there will be a lot more Americans competing than at the NCAAs, as you noted? Have you gone to any of the previous trials in Eugene?

My wife asked me lunch about going to something I hadn't seen before and, skipping over the NCAAs, I mentioned the Olympic trials (and Copa America, if it comes back to the US in 2028, as is being rumored.)

My guess is the 28 trials will be in LA as they were the

last time the Olympics were in LA (1984) and also they were in Atlanta in 96. It certainly helps the US to compete in the same facility that the actual Olympics will be in If not Hayward is great option as it has been several times. I have attended 3 trials there (1980, 2012, and 2024). They are fun & full. can get pretty full. NBC and the USOC does it big in Eugene with Nike , Adidas, and other sponsors very involved.

If it happens and you plan on coming I certainly can give you advice as I've done with other Domers who visited Eugene for Track meets.

Guesses as to where in LA they would hold the trials? *

Different poster, but my wild guesses:

--The Coliseum if they want to test run the facilities and handling crowds.

--If they don't want anyone in the Exposition Park area so close to the Games, then they'll have the trials at U.C.L.A. The Bruins' facility did host a Grand Prix event in 2023.

The facilities at U.S.C. have hosted that same L.A. Grand Prix event, but offer none of the above advantages and hold fewer spectators. It wouldn't seem worth the hassle.

This all assumes that they'd want it in the L.A. area . What did they do for the Atlanta Games in '96?

I thought they removed the track at the Coliseum.

They did, and they're bringing it back for the Olympics.

Its performance would be one of the things scrutinized if they hold the trials there, I'm sure.

As an aside, the renderings for the setup there also show some kind of subsurface entrance for the athletes on competition day, and I want to see how that's supposed to work out.

Good analysis & supposition. My guess it all depends on how

well LA & California get their act together with their upgrades in time, but I know little about LA. The truth is they need to get it done.right and on time for the Games, My guess is Hayward will be the easy fall back.
