the winner to their National Record and now the World Record for Kerr, by being close behind. Yet Yared still does hold the US National record in his race I saw back in 2023 in Eugene when he ran 3:43.97 and broke Alan Webb's 16 year old record of 3:46.91. Also Yared has beaten the three other next fastest Americans when they had their personal best: Cole Hocker in 2025 in Eugene and Ethan Strand & Hobbs Kessler earlier this month in Eugene when Yared was again second, just behind Cameron Myers of Australia, when Myers got his National and Oceania continental record.

Yared also set the new continental record (North, Central America and Caribbean) in 23 when he was barely second to Norway's Jacob Ingebrigsten's as Jacob also got his National and then European continental record. 28 year old Scot Josh Kerr just took that away from the arrogant 25 year old Norwegian so I don't think this Mile battle is done, Ingebrigtsen recently had Achille surgery so he could go after the three old distance world records including the mile (see linked article written today) so he will be upset Kerr got one of those 1st. When Hocker, Kerr, & Nuguse won the 3 medals over 4th place Ingebrigsten in the 24 Paris Olympics he doubled down including gettng the surgery.

There are a lot of talented 1500m/Mile /5000m runners with Kerr the oldest at 28. Yared is 2nd oldest of the best at 27 with Hocker & Ingebrigsten both 25. Then there are several younger up and comers including the two 23 year old Americans Yared just beat July 4th ijn Eugene (Kessler & Strand).. Then there are the two others who beat Yared in the Bowerman mile at the Pre: the 21 year old Dutch Niels Laros & the 20 year Australian Myers. Plus there's lots of up and coming Kenyons: 21 year old Reynold Cheruiyot and 19 year old Phanuel Koech amongst all the several Ethiopans & Kenyans who dominate the 5k & 10k races. My guess the assault on these distance WRs is just starting.
