are they now getting it?

Yes, it's basically a redshirt year for every player

no matter if they play in games or not.

There is a one-season adjustment to go over the 13-scholarship limit so that teams can keep their players if they wish to do so and the kids want to return. Many will want to graduate and move on with life though. Now, how many schools will want to pay for 14, 15 etc scholarships in this revenue climate is a whole different story as it was heading into this pandemic many schools were going with 11-12 scholarship rosters.

There was an article on ESPN how the guards for Syracuse can rewrite school records for scoring and made treys by playing in 5 seasons.

Wertz wants a masters and that was the appeal to sit out and get used to better competition. He likely could have received a waiver to play this season.

From what I have read, the athletes have an extra year- but the amount of scholarships remains the same, so the school either needs to save them a spot on SS or they have to pay their own way. Looks like ND will save a SS spot for Doerer to kick in a 5th season.
