themselves right? If not that is a very significant rule change. I read it as they still can and as it is now anything close in a tight game the refs immediately signal to go to the monitor so I don’t see it being too big a deal.

It’s tough to get that rule exactly right. You have to have the ability to overturn who touched it last but in pre replay times the refs had the out of just awarding the ball to the player closest to the out of bounds (on a rebound usually the defense) because in those cases the offensive player many times commits some type of touch foul through the back or slapping the arm that the refs don’t want to call but is the reason why the inside player touched it last. In those cases when they go to replay they’re obligated to give the ball to the team that committed the foul, not ideal.
