He was one of the first great players to come out of my high school - he led CBA to an undefeated season in 1973 that concluded with a win over Hudson Catholic, which had future NBA players Jim Spanarkel and Mike O'Koren. 9 of his 10 siblings played college ball - one was a great player at Fordham - but he was the best of the bunch.
I never realized until after I'd graduated ND that he played in the game that ended the UCLA streak.
I can still recall his big shot vs Michigan State in East Lansing as a Freshman.
While visiting ND on a football weekend as a HS student, I saw Billy walking on campus with two attractive co-eds - one on each arm.
In admiration, I recall thinking to myself: "Legends are made here."
