He absolutely had to go, but really, so do several others who are playing as badly or worse, but other than Mika, don't make as much money ($8.5M cap hit). And if they send the new defenseman, who I'm reading is not as bad as he appears statistically, but has been injured through his young career, down to Hartford, they also save on his salary, netting a true $8M cap savings.
