Griffey reminds me of my favorite story in his very brief tenure with the Sox:

The Sox were playing the Twins in the old Metrodome. Like Cub fans, Twins fans have this weird and goofy habit of throwing back opposing players' home run balls. It was Steve Stone's first season broadcasting the Sox after coming over from the Cubs, and that first season he was on radio.

Griffey hit a tape measure home run high over the "hefty bag" in rightfield into the upper deck.

Ed Farmer: " . . . Track. Wall. Gone!"
Stone: "Ed, I now know who the dumbest guy in America is."
Farmer: "Who's that, Steve?"
Stone: "That guy just threw back Ken Griffey Jr.'s 609th home run ball."
