Four players altogether in the trade.

Freddy is reliable but it's always a struggle for him to get beyond the 6th inning because he nibbles so much at the corners. Myers pitched well as a starter in 2024. Any Brewers fan surprised that Peralta was traded shouldn't have been. The Brewers still have a decent stable of starters, but this might be their last year with Woodruff.

The Brewers got back two good ones

Sproat was a bit rushed to MLB, but in time he'll be good.

Jett Williams will be a star. Unfortunately, he's blocked at his two best positions, CF and SS

He’s 5’7 - I have serious doubts *

playing for the Brewers.

I agree

But then you watch him play and his ascent through the minor leagues against good pitchers has been consistently good. The only blip was some time lost to the wrist injury, but he picked up where he left off as soon as he came back.

I suspect that's why he wasn't drafted higher.

I'm telling you, he's going to be special. I have the same feeling him walk out the door as we all did when PCA was traded. Thankfully we got a better return than a shitastic half season of Javy f'ing Baez. Sorry going to go vomit again. Every Met fan I know worries is that this will be the next PCA, where we watch him start to shine somewhere else.

I'm curious where he's going to land on the Brewers prospect rankings. I suspect it will be near the top. He's one of those up the middle guys that people like Stearns loves.

I don’t know him at all so take this with a serious

grain of salt. He’s gonna have to play 2nd. No one 5’7 is gonna play SS or CF everyday in the ML - just my opinion.

What makes you think he’s gonna be a star? Tell me about him if you’ve seen him.

Every draft scouts tout the short players as the next Altuve and Pedroia. And every year they suck.

It’s a big man’s game for the most part. I cannot stand short, little players.

All that said - there are some rare exceptions.

I’ll never forget when the White Sox drafted Nick Madrigal 4th overall. I laughed. What a fucking joke.

Jimmy Rollins disagrees *

I don’t know of any player listed at multiple positions

that has become an everyday SS at the ML level. SS play SS. They don’t play CF and 2B. Can they - of course. But their primary position is SS. They’ve played it their whole lives and consider a change an afront.

If Jett is not an everyday SS now he won’t suddenly become one.

I loved Jimmy Rollins.

Jett is an every day SS

He's just blocked by Francisco Lindor, so he went for position flexibility to get to the bigs. He knew he was blocked at SS.

He was drafted as a SS. He's played the vast majority of his Minor League games at SS, but yes, he's added positional flexibility to continue to move up the ladder. Jett Williams wasn't going to play SS for the New York Mets while Francisco Lindor was in his prime.

If he can play SS in the ML it changes everything! *

Yes, highly, highly, HIGHLY unusual, maybe even unprecedented, and downright astonishing, but you do know of one.

A couple of things
by HTownND  (2026-01-22 16:58:21)     cannot delete  |  Edit  |  Return to Board  |  Ignore Poster   |   Highlight Poster  |   Reply to Post

1) His plate discipline was at the top of the Mets farm team rankings. His OBP and walk rates were good at every level.
2) He has elite speed, and when matched with his OBP, is a good thing
3) His CF defensive metrics were outstanding (as an aside why can't a 5' 7" guy play CF in MLB?)
4) His power was above expected given 1-3

He's never going to lead the team in HRs, but he has pop. He's going to play elite levels of defense. Get on base a ton and run around the bases when he does get on. Plus, he's pretty damn scrappy and everyone considers him a "gamer" who does all the little stuff day in and day out.

Time will tell. I'm not writing this stuff about Sproat, and I'm not writing it about other Mets prospects. From all accounts, everyone was high on him. Very high on him.

The link below was a profile about him after the Nimmo trade and what it would mean for him going forward with Semien coming back the other way.

It’s very difficult for a small guy in today’s game

to handle the rigors of a full season at CF. Doesn’t happen often. I just don’t think a 5’7 gringo is playing SS at the ML level. That relegates him to 2nd.

His batting average and strikeout rates are alarming. Not many .256 minor league hitters end up being “special”. Like none.

My friends and colleagues know I hate small players. I have an inherent distaste for them. I’ve seen too many “special” little guys suck.

Give me size and impact. Very difficult for a little guy to have impact.
