Pack hire Gannon as DC, Niners hire Morris

Important (and good) moves for both teams, IMO.

For the Packers, it was down to Gannon or Leonhard,

but Leonhard wasn't going to be available until after the AFC title game and Gannon didn't want to wait and then Fangio apparently started vacillating about whether he wanted to stay in Philly as a DC, so that got LaFleur to make the offer to Gannon. Gannon won a Super Bowl in Philly as their DC but I don't know how much as due to the front four they had there. LaFleur was impressed by Gannon's defense the last time the Packers played the Cardinals. (Side note: the LaFleur brothers play each other in 2027.)

There are a lot of Badger fans in this state who wanted Leonhard to be the DC but once again, the timing wasn't right. Leonhard may end up doing well as the DC in Buffalo. If Fickel ever gets fired as the Badgers head coach, Leonhard's name will go straight to the top as the most popular candidate in the state.

Morris' name came up with the Packers because he and LaFleur know each other from Atlanta, but I have no idea if it ever went anywhere.

I'm pretty sure that Morris was going to SF

unless he got a head job; he was a finalist in AZ, and as soon as they announced Flower, the Niners had an announcement in 15 minutes or so.

Morris and Shanahan are best friends.

Raheem's head coaching days are probably over. *

Permit me to ask a Packers OL question here.

What was the story with Aaron Banks when he was with the Niners? The Packers signed him to a nice contract last year but now there are suprising rumblings he may get cut after only one year with the Packers and it's currently a bad miss for Gutey and his staff (unless the OL coach needs to fall on his sword).

What was the reason the Niners didn't want to bring him back?

The niners don't pay big money for guards
