This is not a vent board or any other kind of therapy. Before you hit the POST button, ask yourself if your contribution will add to the level of discussion going on.

Important notes on articles:

• Please do not copy entire articles into your post; rather, provide links to them.. We are now links-only for ALL Internet publications. If only a small portion of the article pertains to your post, Fair Use allows you to copy those one or two paragraphs, provided you cite the author's name and the publication for which he writes. Otherwise, put a link in the HTTP Link box.
• Even if you're copying a reference to an article, provide a link to the page from which the article came. We're trying to cut down on duplicate topics, and the posting process will check the link to your article to see if it's already being discussed on this board. At the very least, you'll save yourself some grief on the boards.
• If your first reaction after reading the article you're going to share is the author is uninformed / stupid / a jerk / all of the above, it's not worth sharing with anyone. Not every article needs to be discussed. The more the hair-pulling articles are discussed (e.g. ESPN Page 2), the more the authors will write hair-pulling articles.

So the others merely sift through 20K-50K apps just looking for the academically gifted, but we add our own twist: "we really look at their creativity and motivation for learning, not just their ability to create academic results.”

OK. I'm sure that is unique to ND among the Top 15. To me, simply say you sought those qualities. You really have little reason and basis to opine on what others do. That said, the real difference is that we are a truly aspiring to deliver a faith-informed education. Kids have to want that and not everyone does. Hopefully that difference is explained in the process to would be students.

Suffice it to say that demand for ND is clearly greater than ever and that inevitably means a more gifted talent pool from which to choose. I just hope is reflects greater diversity in socio-economic strata. The thing that bummed me out the most was seeing those WSJ reports on how "elite" the students were in terms of where they came from (top 5% and top 1%) - much greater than other top schools. I seem to recall BC was high up there as well in that regard. That concentration is not good for ND (and I say that as one blessed financially - as are many alums).

Good luck to the new students. You will clearly be among future leaders of people, business, politics, academics and sport.
