I would have a much better risk appetite if we had spent by No Right Turn on Red

the summer doing things to mitigate the spread of the virus. Wearing masks, social distancing, not reopening the flood gates of bars and gyms or taking vacations, comprehensive testing and contact tracing, etc.

Instead, a chunk of the population spent all summer crying about their freedoms and shouting conspiracy theories. A lot of intelligent medical professionals were telling us if we didn't stop being selfish, we'd be in the exact spot we're in right now entering spring.

So the reward for those people who were selfish all summer is that those who tried to do the right thing now get to be guinea pigs to see just how bad this virus may or may not get this fall? No thanks.

Maybe I'd have a better appetite for risk if the society as a whole would start pulling its own weight.
