Have you considered any of the complexities of this? by pmcdnd96

The fact that Vandy, Stanford, and Northwestern have offered those kids is only relevant to ND in that it eliminates the BS excuse that we don't pursue top talent because they can't qualify for admission at Notre Dame.

Those teams can offer top athletes until the cows come home because they're so unlikely to get them. If Northwestern somehow lands the number 10 player in the country, they will find a way to make room for him, even if it means yanking a scholarship from somebody else who wanted to commit. They have landed two players in the top 300 from the past four recruiting classes...one if we move that to "top 295". (Stanford has averaged 4 top-300 a year for the past 4 years and I'm not going to bother looking up Vandy.) As underwhelming as our recruiting performance has been, we land enough upper-tier talent that we have to at least ask the question "what if every kid we offer accepts?" Those schools don't.

This is not to say that we do an adequate job recruiting top players, I just don't think that the offers of much weaker football programs offers much of a barometer.
