Thoughts from the game... by btownirish

1. Offense has ways to go, buy played better. Play calling conservative on last two drives. Need to add a little finesse to running game and allow Drew to go down field for 5-10 yards when we need it. That said, touchdown where offense just pushed Cal back 4-5 plays in a row was good to watch.
2. Defense playing well enough yesterday to win most games on the schedule. And was in Cal's backfield all game long.
3. Cal's best play was QB scramble. Frustrating to watch when D stopped several drives, only to be then kept alive by scramble.
4. Drew's body language was not good during 1Q. Don't understand the slow start and hand-dog attitude given how take-charge he was in back-up role last year.
5. Stadium was dead silent after last play. Felt bad for Marcus. Not the exciting close out of his first official win as head coach you would have wanted.
6. Jumbotron is better, but still loud. Every non-football moment is filled with hip-hop noise. Will admit, however, that at one point in 3Q the jumbotron was not blasting out hip hop and it was dead silent. I don't know if the crowd was disappointed in the game or conditioned to not even try to talk over the tron, but it was eerie. Nice, but eerie. Would like to experience an SEC game to understand the difference between the two.
7. Stadium announcer's calling card of "first down" is small-timey and needs to stop. We're better than that, except during the 1Q yesterday.
8. No announcement of other scores that used to get the crowd excited or from state trooper about traffic safety. When did the latter stop? In any event, I would prefer a more business-like approach, instead of everyone trying to be entertaining. Just do your fucking job!! :)
