ND Women, Men Through to NCAA Meet by dillon77

Olivia Markezich won the women's race in 19:54 (5:20 pace), with Siona Chisholm in 4th (20.06) and Maddy Denner in 6th (201.13). Irish destroyed the field, finishing with 33 points while 2nd place Ohio State had 111 and 3rd place Michigan had 116. Four of the Irish's top 5 are underclassmen, which bodes well for the future and, who knows if the three seniors have Covid years they could use.

Men took second place, totaling 61 points to 1st place finisher, Wisconsin, which had 50. Michigan, with 79 points, also took third in the men's race.
The Irish were led by soph Carter Solomon (29:56 - a 4:49 pace), who came in 5th and freshman Izaiah Steurey came in 6th (30.02 = 4:50 pace). Not one senior on the entire Irish men's team, so they're reloading well this season.

The NCAA Championships are set for this upcoming Friday, November 18 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Kudos to Matt Sparks, the overall director of the Track and Cross Country programs and Chris Neal, the first-year assistant coach who oversees the XC teams, taking over for Sean Carlson, who left for Tennessee. Sparks has pushed ND long distance into the top strata of the Midwest and ACC. Has an eye for talent -- runners and coaches, alike.

Go Irish!
