"We're Going To Gash The @#$@#% Out of Them"

No that's not binocular and fake cop badge festooned Bill Kirk talking about taking on rogue tailgaters, but Stanford OL Chris Marinelli on Notre Dame. Marinelli has apologized for these remarks. Can you really call "backsies" after this? BTW, the last time a team gave ND bulletin board material, Michigan kicked our asses. Hope that's not the case here. Without further comment, here's Marinelli almost uncensored:

"They are going to bring a great deal of blitzes – on first down, second down, third down, every down. All kinds of guys and they bring it a bunch of different wayy... but on the same token it's going to go bad for them at one point and we are going to gash the (expletive) out of them, I promise you that. So keep bringing it, keep bringing it. They have one sack all year on 200 blitzes."

"They can keep bringing all the stuff they want", Marinelli added. "We can pick up blitzes. Our defense, blitzes more than anyone in the country, too. So we are ready for that. That's no big deal.

"We've seen everything they've shown on tape. We've seen it before, it's nothing new. They are very disciplined with what they do, which kinda makes it nice. Sometimes when they screw up, it works out better for the defense. We aren't too worried about, we are a uniform group and we'll slide right in there."

"I hate it, playing up there," Marinelli said. "The field, excuse my language, the field sucks. The stadium sucks. I think the area sucks."

"I grew up with a bunch of Irish and Italian Catholic people back home. And all the Irish Catholic people, all they talk about is Notre Dame this, Notre Dame that. And they've never even been there, ya know. So I hate those guys, I hate that school.

"We are going out there to mash them up and that's all there is to it."

One would think that going to a high academic and quality school like Standford would reduce the chances of players not knowing what not to say.

This is surprising.

Then again, perhaps he wants our Lads to focus on him and ignore the other O-Linemen.

This should be interesting.

You would think that Stanford would have more intelligent players on their team who know better than to give any school for that matter, any motivation material. Being that Stanford is one of the top academic schools in the nation, I'm a little supprised at him coming out with these comments. This is something you say in the NFL, not the college level.

Wow. That's some real good material. I bet that's what a lot of opposing teams think. It's about time these guys know what their up against (teams having no respect for you). Hopefully, the Irish can make him eat those words.

I think these comments just make ND laugh. That the Cardinal is even concerned about being beat... (Beat Stanford ) is..noteworthy..& they're not concerned by the ND Blitz...(we only sacked one QB?)

A brief look at this joker's scout.com recruiting page tells me the real issue here. He was interested in Stanford, BC, Duke, and ND during his recruitment. He got offers from the other 3, but ND (in addition to Mich, AZ State, and Wisc.) never offered him. I figure that he's just let the resentment build over the past 4 years, a stretch in which his team has gone 0-3 against the Irish.

Not saying what he said is at all intelligent, but that's a little background that I'm sure is important.

anonymous 9:42 AM,
Let me say I stand corrected. They hate us! Last yeat they beat USC at the L. A. Colliseum. When we played the Cardinal last year, it was like the refs and the reviewers determined the outcome of the game ?? sort of..Marinelli:" Stanford's defence blitzes more than anyone in the country, too".
It's up to Jimmy C.............. to audible....GO IRISH

HaHa. Since when does anyone who plays football for STANFORD have the right to brag about taking it to a team smash mouth? I mean, maybe in polo? Give me a break. How about a winning season first? Furthermore, sorry Mr. Manelli, everyone knows that Stanford didn't beat USC last year so much as the Trojans beat themselves Just like they did last week and have tended to do at least once a season of late.

Let's not kid ourselves, it was a bit of self-promotion on his part. What an idiot! (and a poor representation of college football) Let's make him eat his ignorant words tomorrow! Go Irish!!!!

I watched the Stanford USC game from beginning to end. To say USC beat themselves is not true. Coach Jim Harbaugh and Stanfords QB and recievers whipped USC on the Line and he out coached Pete Carrol.
He was a great Coach at The University of San Diego(A Roman Catholic College) when he put them on the Football Map as the Sub Divison. He will be Head Coach at an Elite Program someday. Plus he is Catholic and his players love the guy.
Stanford will be ready to play ND on Saturday. As for the rejection remarks from ND Students to BC and to this kid. It is not old school Notre Dame in attitude. Lets face it this kid did damn good to get a full ride to Stanford. If he applys himself and works hard in School he is set for life.
I do not care for Stanford down the nose attitide it has for Notre Dame. Their Band is full of smart arse Frat Kids. ( I was at the game at Stanford when Holtz was Coach when they had their Band Leader Dressed up like Madonna in a Habit rubbing a Giant Cross in private parts during the whole game. Imagain them doing that to a Muslim school.
Then one year they did a whole skit at half time on the Irish Potato Famine.

Their whole fan base is laughing their immature heads off.

I think that caudes ND to ban the Stanford Band to the game for a number of years.

All that aside, I saw them whip Oregon State in their opener this year. The same team SC got whomped on two weeks ago. Of course Oregon State got beat last night by Utah. So who knows.

This is game Father Malloy put on the Schedule. It should be replaced in my opinon to play UCLA in a home and home in the Rose Bowl every other year and at ND like wise.

We get nothing for beating Stanford. Their own fan base is so small that they just made their Stadium quite a bit smaller. Because they never sell it out.

But mark my words. Coach Jim Harbaugh is the best Coach the then Stanford Indians has had since Coach John Ralston in the late 60'early 70s when Heisman Winner Jim Plunkett and W/0 Randay Vataha were playing and winning the then PAC 8 and they were upsetting Michigan and Ohio State in the Rose Bowls.

GOOOO IRISH beat down the Cardinal

The get them off the schedule and put UCLA in their place.

I just read that Lou will be coaching a group of nd alumni football players in Japan... next summer.

I was geeked until i saw that they are only going to recruit players from the last ten years.

which is mostly made up of DAVIEHAM recruits and teams.

OH GREAT...unless Quinn, Shark, VA and Laws can play every down...WE'RE @#$@#% ED....

Why is a player from Stanford trash talking? Heck, we beat them last year. This year we'll rip them a new one. Stanford? Really? When have they ever been good? When Elway was there?

Marinelli....If you are reading this...YOU Are a JOKE! Nothing wrong with getting pumped up...but making rediculous, rude, and disrespectful comments like that are uncalled for. Stanford should consider itself lucky that ND keeps them on their schedule!
