What stands out about Golson is his combination of athleticism and accuracy. He was named the best athlete at the Elite 11 quarterback camp and on the field has been more accurate than even Jimmy Clausen. Over two years Golson has thrown for 69 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions while completing 68% of his passes. For comparison Clausen hd a 46-6 TD/INT ratio and a 68% completion ratio his senior year.

It’s a joy to coach him and a pleasure to be around him.”

The Bluffton High School football players and coaches had no shortage of adjectives to describe Myrtle Beach quarterback Everett Golson after Wednesday morning’s practice.
One of the state’s top offensive talents — and arguably its best quarterback — will lead the Seahawks (12-1) into Bobcat Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday night for the Class 3-A Lower State championship. He has speed and mobility, and the Seahawks often pick up huge chunks of yardage on deep passes after Golson has made a couple of defenders miss in the backfield. “You have to realize that even when he’s scrambling, he’s always looking to pass that ball,” Bobcats defensive coordinator John Houpt said. “You can’t give up on plays because he will hurt you.”
Scout: Golson is a quarterback that can pick defenses apart when given time and lanes to throw through. His size hurts him because he is not quite 6-feet tall, but he can make each throw top quarterbacks have to make. He has a very quick release, he throws a tight spiral, and he has excellent mobility. He can lock in on receivers at times, so he needs to work on that, but other than that and his size, he does all at a high level.
ESPN: Golson is such an intriguing and difficult guy to evaluate because as a quarterback he does display some impressive traits as a passer, yet he is short and built like a wide receiver.

I was at ND when Joe Theismann was a student/player. When he was a senior, Joe was in a class with me. I can tell you this: Theismann was 6′ only in his dreams. But he proved to be a pretty decent QB. Maybe this kid will be a good one, too. Look at his hands. Theismann has BIG hands.

My daughter goes to MBHS and I’ve watched him play for 4 yrs. He’s very quick and throws a beautiful, catchable ball. We’ve often wondered how much better he could be throwing to college level receivers. Missed 8 games this year when he injured his ankle and hand vs. Byrnes. Otherwise he probably would be very high on all-time records as he started 4 years. A great kid by all accounts. As a basketball player he is a driving, penetrating point-was all-state. Good luck to him.

Graduated the same year as Joe Theismann and he lived down the hall form me. He was 5-11 maybe soaking wet as I am, but as mpsND72 states accurately his hands were immense allowing him to grip the ball well and throw rocket passes. I put my hands up against his once — they were twice the siz of mine!
Golson can be better than him and more, A very talented young man. Welcome aboard!

Watching his film I think this kid is a good fit for Kelly’s system. For a high school kid I am really impressed with the way he keeps his eyes downfield. A lot of athletic QBs in high school are too quick to run when pressured but this kid seems to have good field vision. A couple of those throws to the corner of the endzone show great accuracy and touch too. Lets go Irish!!!

As promised, Golson has a strong arm and solid accuracy. A few of the more impressive things in his highlights video I noticed are that he cotinues to look down the field when pressured, rather than tucking it away and running automatically. When he does scramble, he may be small in stature, but he is a long-stride runner…makes his speed and direction deceiving, similar to Cam Newton. And you have to love that when he scores, he does it like he’s been there (which he has).

He’s definitely pass first, which is how Kelly’s spread works, he doesn’t look extremely fast but seems to have a good pocket presence, however his line seemed to be dominating the other teams D-Line in those highlights. Cam Newton is the bar right now, maybe the best college quarterback ever because he can do it AAAALLLLLLL! He’s no Cam Newton, but with the right receivers, which Notre Dame doesn’t seem to lack, he won’t need to run too often. Good job BK!

For camparison Jimmy was the #1 recruit in the country. I hope this kid pans out but Jimmy was a potential 4 yr/ starter who owns the ND passing record book.

This kid reminds me of Troy Smith at Ohio State – not exceptionally tall or big, but extremely accurate, tight spirals and mobility to escape pressure. I think he will fit in nicely with Kelly’s version of the spread.
For the person who commented about needings WR’s, ND is littered with them. I don’t really see that as a major need. What IS a need, however, is offensive and defensive lineman – especially with the decommittments earliers in the year.
As ND has shown in November, a great D is what wins games. So adding a few quality DL, LB’s and CB’s is where I see the “meat” of this class.
