Doesn't give ND fans cause for much optimism.

86 other teams received votes. 86. That means we are

About halfway down

Butler (31-20)

Can anyone name their coach?

What a god damned clusterfuck we've let our team/program turn into.

His performances

Are much better than the man who replaced him, and it's not really close.

I'm not arguing that Schrage is Manieri. But we fired him to hire someone who is without question, demonstrably worse, who has been retained longer (by coaching this year).

Schrage went 119-104-1 at ND with one season out of 4, below .500

Aoki has gone 200-193-1 at ND with 3 seasons out of 7 below .500

Both coaches had one season right at .500

Aoki is still coach, Schrage was fired, and from what I understand, it wasn't a nice parting of ways.

And you neglected to mention that Aoki

Got the advantage of accomplishing his pautlry results in the ACC- an inferior baseball conference relative to the 1927 Yankees that Schrange was facing each weekend in the Big East. Do we ever present anything in the proper light on these boards if it doesn't support a position that one is trying to advance? Does it matter?

What's the proper light, that Aoki is better than Schrage?

Anyway you look at it, Schrage was fired for what was determined to be inferior performance. Aoki, who also isn't cutting it, and isn't even close to cutting it, continues to be retained and has the full backing of our Athletic Department.

And just because
Here is Mik Aoki's 27 Yankees, er Big East performance

2011 - 13-13
2012 - 14-13
2013 - 10-14

Combined Big East Record 37 - 40

Schrage in BE play
52-54

But yeah, Aoki's deserved 7 years at ND and I didn't present things in a proper light.

Aoki hasn't been better than Schrage no matter how you look at it, yet he's been given a long leash that Schrage was not afforded (and I'm not even including Schrage's personal situation, if we want to go there). Schrage only had one season that was sub .500 and one at .500. Aoki has had over half his seasons at or below .500. In 5 of 7 seasons (including 2 of 3 in the Big East), Aoki has been at or below .500 in conference play.

steady there

I don't think anybody would think that either performance has been worth a damn but the notion that Schrange was done dirty by the athletic department and has a basis in holding it against them finds little support in reality despite your best attempt to slant the numbers. I think we can agree that neither coach's performance is acceptable and leave it at that.

What precisely did I slant?
by HTownND  (2018-01-11 13:29:22)     cannot delete  |  Edit  |  Return to Board  |  Ignore Poster   |   Highlight Poster  |   Reply to Post

Be specific?

Because I didn't call out the BE versus the ACC numbers?

Aoki has been allowed to hang around while Schrage was shown the door. I'm sure he wasn't happy about being let go, and would relish the opportunity to go toe to toe with his successor at ND.

There is no slant, and I never implied that Schrage was done dirty. Just that he was let go, while the guy after him has been given a much longer leash while producing worse numbers (both in the BE and ACC).

well this for example.

Whether 15 games or 7 games above .500 hardly makes a difference and I don't think is "without question" "demonstrably worse" when you figure in the conference affiliation. Let's just agree that the results have been abject over the past 11 years and a reboot is in order and leave it at that.

Fair enough *

And came to the conclusion that it must make for better support for those that have grievances with the athletic department to claim that some coaches where inappropriately terminated (e.g., W lax; apparently baseball too??) irrespective of that coach's abject results on the field.
