It could have been worse.
out of the preseason.
He basically lost them the game last night. 3 sacks totalling -22 yards, 4 for 7 for 24 yards, and then an INT that set up the Raiders’ winning FG in the last minute.
Dexter is hanging by a thread. They didn’t even try to throw to him; he had 27 yards on 11 runs.
While he was an electrifying player to watch in college football, he had several things going against him for the NFL.
For one, too many of his big runs came simply by being the most athletic guy on the field. That's a recipe for success in college, but not in the NFL. The talent differential is so tight in the NFL.
For too, he was very feast or famine. ND despite a good rushing game, had a very low "success rate" - i.e. too many runs stopped for loss or next to no yardage.
A successful NFL back has to be able to keep grinding and turn those situations into 3ish yard gains and avoid negative plays.
if you're any good, the coaches won't let you even suit up
He was bad with the Browns. I know that needs to be graded on a massive curve because of how atrocious they were when he was with them.
But last year and so far this year he has looked lost. He has poor pocket presence, questionable decision making, and doesn't go through his progressions anywhere near quick enough. I like Kizer and wish him the best, but he's been outplayed by Boyle for the role of #2.
Kizer played poorly. His one INT was an end-of-game Hail Mary but he got sacked three times, including a horrible 16-yard sack on 4th down. He played the entire second half and the Packers got no points, not even a FG attempt. His ESPN QB rating was 24.4 (contrasted to 113.9 for Boyle).
From what I understand, Dexter Williams didn't hurt nor help himself.
They failed to open up running lanes the entire evening. Dexter didn't look great but none of the Packer RBs did. The only time they would gain substantial yardage on running plays was whenever the RB would abandon their running assignment & cut to the outside. I think their longest run was a jet sweep by a WR.
The field was shitty. Played on an 80 yard field with no kickoffs, and a hole in the turf of one end zone. I wouldn't say this was at all indicative of the Packers line, which should be above average this year. They have one of the best LTs in the league, and the rest is solid.
I'm just giving reasons why Williams running stats weren't higher.
No worries. Just saying that the line should be better, and I don’t want anyone to judge Dexters performance based on last night. I think he makes the team, and I hope he’s productive.
He was grabbing his knee while on the ground. It did not look good
