The unsimple answer is Hell No.
IF we're ever fortunate enough to have an 11-1 season
AND if that team is then left out of playoff (and suspect teams get in over ND)
THEN at that point - either join the ACC or drop football
Your scenario would have happened this year. Hypothetically, had we not crumbled and instead won the last 4 games (and our loss was to FSU), we would have been locked out. We would have been ranked 7th - or maybe even 8th behind Mississippi State.
The question is whether we value an opportunity at a National Championship over independence. I will always take the former over the latter.
A baby could answer it!
If you were a hot dog, and you were starving, would you eat yourself?
Life isn't simple
I believe you'd get your ass kicked sayin' something like that, man.
through the Big10 & Jim Delaney in and of itself makes it interesting. Anything that would piss him/them off is worth at least pausing to consider the hypothetical schaudenfrade. Texas/ND to ACC would have the same impact on Delaney as a bucket of water on the wicked Witch of the West.
And if the writing was on the wall that we had to join a conference then the ACC with Texas would be by far our best option.
I'd prefer a USC-TEXAS - Alabama - ND - Michigan - tOSU - FSU - Florida - Oregon - Oklahoma Conference. That is the only conference I'd join willingly. And it would be like the NFL. 8-4 would be a good season.
I don't think anything's worse than the ACC.
With an out clause in the event any school leaves prior to the end of the term of our agreement.
But I'd make sure the ACC held a spot open for us.
