They shouldn't commit to a program while the coaching carousel is still going around. And the early signing period promotes dishonesty lacking the best interest of the players.

There certainly may be some buyers remorse . . .

but no one is obligated to sign early. It is an option when you have settled on your destination (perhaps albeit with certain expectations on coaching), but it can be a tool to separate those who commit with confidence to a school (and the 40+ year benefits) versus those who commit to a coach, or other variables.
