USC Asst. AD Apparently was in on the Admission Scandal
by UpperEastSideIrish (2019-03-13 16:10:16)

Apparently at other schools, there were some rogue coaches and higher powered folks weren't involved or had knowledge of the scam. At USC, the Associate AD was taking $50K per kid.

Fight on

Is this lack of institutional oversight

ND - booster club member acts inappropriately - NCAA infraction
USC - Asst AD paid to facilitate admission - we will see if this is an NCAA issue

reverse of the norm: Instead of paying athletes to play and/or inflating their academic credentials, school employees were getting paid to inflate athletic credentials. I know you know this, I just wanted to see how that looked in writing.

I am figuring that the total penalty was at least 1/2 billion (and that's just a guess for the dozens of settled lawsuits from the 1970s forward for crimes that Paterno didn't know about ever).

I thought it was parole rather than expungement.

The win return would be more like the latter. But the NCAA didn't absolve it of underlying violations did it?

After all the officiating, correspondence class grades, the Poodle's moves, now there's more than Travellers poop on campus? How can this be! Just adding $ to the athletic dept. what a typical Trojan move.

Masters. It doesn't clearly say they traveled *to* the Masters itself.

Defendant Mossimo Giannulli, a fashion designer married to Loughlin, traveled to Augusta, Ga., home of the Masters golf tournament, with USC’s athletic director, according to the affidavit. It is unclear whether he was speaking of the current athletic director, Lynn Swann, or his predecessor, Pat Haden.

Lynn Swann is a member of the Augusta National.

Pat Haden (who of course preceded Swann as USC athletic director) is also a member. Lou Holtz and Condi Rice too.
