they're not used to decide games, with a best of 3 - keep going format; they're rarely called; and, maybe because there's no time for prep they don't involve the gimmicky lateral skate all over the frigging ice for 5 minutes leading to the shot. It's all a matter of choice but there's a reason a lot of hard core hockey people don't like the SO.
