this season will have to do with it but if I were to guess, this year or next will be his last behind the bench.

Thank you. Follow up question

Although I consider myself a Fighting Irish hockey fan, I’m still largely uneducated about college hockey as a whole. Are there any coaching candidates out there who you’d prefer? Are there any coaches out there with Irish connections that we might look at?

Again, thank you for humoring a neophyte.

I thought taking a run at Mike Hastings would have been

a winning move had Jackson left before last year, but he's now proving he can win at a name brand school in Wisconsin.

I think they are grooming Brock Sheahan to take over for Jackson. Hiring an alum is always fraught with risk, but this would not be anything like the hiring of Dave Poulin back in 1995. That was an odd move that had more downside by far than upside. I don't think Sheahan is behind the Irish bench to be anyone's number 4.

I'm not close enough to the sport anymore to have anything like an informed opinion about who the up and coming coaches are. Our poster ndmd99 might have an opinion about some other names out there who might be the next big thing as far as NCAA coaches go. If he has a thought, I'd love to hear his.

Sheahan has paid his dues at multiple levels of coaching. I

am looking forward to a younger coach taking a fresh approach to our perennially stagnant offense.

As I posted elsewhere, if Sheahan is indeed Notre Dame's

coach of the future, I want it announced soon and I want the move made. We're in the midst of 5 years of total mediocrity and no NCAA success. Aside of two seasons of play in the Big Ten we have been completely flat in this conference. And aside from a 6-0 record in the postseason tournament in the first two seasons here, we have a losing record in the conference tournament and haven't been back to the final since 2019. This year it will almost certainly require a Big Ten Tournament championship to make another NCAA run.

It was one thing to put up with year after year of mediocrity with Poulin, when the program had not shown itself to be capable of sustained dominance. But we know what the potential around here is. Since this program took the ice in the 2018 NCAA title game in St. Paul,it has fallen far short of that potential for six straight years. What makes anyone think this is going to change if nothing in the program changes?
