Press conference questions

Having participated in countless ND basketball press conferences, many more for men's basketball but sometimes for women's too, I have become a critic of the questions that media creatures ask.

One of my pet peeves id the "How important" questions. If I have the embed code right, yesterday's press conference video will start with an example.

What are the players supposed to say?

"Oh, it's very important."

"No, it isn't important at all."

Of course it's important. Duh. The players gave the question a better response than it deserved.

Of course, some reporters ask good questions. For example...

This is a question that gives listeners a chance to understand how the coach thinks during the game.

One think I learned is to ask questions that get the coach to talk shop, so to speak. Coaches love that kind of a question. One can tell by the facial expression that says, "Good question."
