Shepard had a hard time driving to the rim. She had an open mid-range jumper at the free-throw line but wouldn’t take it. There were no open lanes for JY to drive to the hoop. Miami out played us last night. Period! It’s one game. The team looked like they were running on fumes. We’re tournament ready, and we will make a deep run.
They can get ready, but there’s no guarantee at this point.
against high quality defenses has looked ordinary -- to be charitable -- much of the season.
The stagnant offense last night was not "one game" by any objective standard.
There is lots of stationary dribbling, which leads to lots of standing around by players without the ball. Or perhaps I have the chicken and the egg roles reversed. In any case, there is far too much of both.
Jackie Young is the most physically talented basketball player on the team, and only Jess Shepard rivals her in basketball IQ -- e.g., footwork, how to use her body in traffic, etc.
They're 21-3. I guess they should be 24-0 while beating opponents by 30 or more.
JY drove the lane and drew shooting fouls on Mompremier. I think she could have forced the issue more. She also had several open 3's that she didn't even fake an attempt let alone actually shoot.
Had that open elbow jumper about ten times last night and wouldn't take it. Don't know if that's her choice or how she's being coached but it seems like knocking down a couple might open up the lane a little bit.
low. she would use her weight and strength to create the space for a layup. this year many of these shots are blocked because her reduced size has not created that space.
team isn’t executing it.
when your offense consists of shoehorning the ball into the post.
needs to be more assertive. Not her role this year.
