We are going to be way better next year than people think.

Even during the Pre-Skylar era when the highest rated player out of High School ND had was around #30th overall, Muffet’s Teams always went 25-6 or so.

We will have the #4 overall player (Samantha Brunelle) and the 8th rated player (Anaya Peoples). If we get Westbrook (assuming any mutual interest), we are right back in the thick of things. No Geno, Muffet, or Tara coached team is ever going to be lower than 15th.

Pre Skylar years: In the 8 years after the 2001 NC McGraw’s Irish averaged 22 wins and 10 losses and never advanced beyond the sweet sixteen. The worst year was 18-12 in 05-06.

The highest ranked players by far are going to be the incoming freshmen. They may be great, but it’s going to take some time to adjust to the speed and athleticism of elite D1 basketball.

I’m not saying the roof is going to fall in, but some transfers will be a huge need to mitigate the obstacles in the road ahead next season. Imo, it’s always best to take a brutally honest approach to the kind of transition the team is going to have to make next year and not expect unrealistic results. At the same time, we do hope for the best and have learned to trust this coaching staff to navigate through these waters and possibly surprise people with a reload instead of rebuild experience.
