Not sure whether ND's WBB team got an invite last year at all, or whether the invitation was declined.

and that NDWBB was hardly the first women's NCAA champion in any sport to be snubbed. Dawn Staley had said that SC wouldn't go. Mulkey said a few days ago that Baylor would welcome an invite so that's probably why Trump extended it in this circumstance, given his hatred of rejection.

It’s just that if you know a team may want to play politics with the invitation, why bother to invite them. All that would do is cause hard feelings or cast negative vibes to both the teams political stand and/or our president....depending on how you see it.
