I think OSU hired Kelsey Mitchell's dad as a coach after signing her. My impression is promises/payoffs are made to AAU/street agents and "school reps (assistant coaches, go betweens)" to ensure that some top players end up at certain schools. But I doubt it is at the level as the men's game, which frankly is in the sewer and has been for decades. There, families are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to deliver top players to top programs. The reason? Money. Shoe companies bankroll the go betweens because they hope that one day, they can get the next LeBron to market their wares. The women's game does not generate as much interest (viewers and fans) as the men's game. I do not know if any female player has a lucrative shoe contract, certainly nothing like the multi-million deals that James, Durant, and Harden signed. The higher the stakes and $$; the more competitive the market; and the sleezier the practices.
