Congrats to Beth Morgan-Cunningham for landing this position. It's a good hire for Kara Lawson:

- Since Beth was a HC at VCU for quite some time, she's apparently very good at addressing all the "back-office" aspects of being a head coach, which Muffet gives her full credit for ften taking off her plate (or doing better). This will be invaluable for a new head coach like Lawson.

- Beth's been a member of an NC coaching staff that has had a very good run in conference. Heck, they tore it up in the ACC. Beth and Niele have both scouted and written up more ACC game plans than they can remember.

- Needless to say, she knows ND's offense, particularly the wing position, which she coached for years (K-Mac, Maddie Cable, Sam Brunelle). Expect a clamp on Sam this season from the Blue Devils.

- Beth does not get rattled. Keeps her eye on the prize, just like the smooth shooter she was. That will also come in handy to a first-year coach in a pressure situation.

Kara has said when she was assigned to an ND game on television, she really liked spending time with MM's staff and talking about everything involved in basketball, running a program. You've got to think she spent time with both Niele and Beth.

If things go well for Duke and, in turn, Beth, it could help her get back in the HC game in a few years.

In the meantime, knock on wood, the Durham-South Bend trips just got even more interesting.

And before that, it would be gratifying to see a proper send off via proper ND channels. Don't have to do it, but there's a "right thing to do." This is one of those things.

I am happy for Beth. The ACC will soon become a much tougher

conference as Duke and UNC re-emerge as serious contenders for conference titles. I wonder if NC State and FSU become the teams that slide lower. I'd love to see L'Ville fall in the standings, but Walz recruits too well for them to drop from the top four. Syracuse has been recruiting some top players lately. We will be seeing many great conference match-ups by the time the 2021-22 season rolls around.
