One, when Ederson saw it go in, neither he nor the defenders who had a front-row seats to it, reacted as if it went off his hand. If they didn't immediately see a handball, then perhaps a no-call was the right call, even after the oh-so-close VAR.
Second, his arm went out to meet the ball, but was when the ball actually came and hit his arm/hip his arm was tucked tightly against his body. I would never think a defender gets a penalty called because of that contact, but I also don't think an offensive goal should be disallowed either because of a arm tucked tightly to his body.
Did I think it contacted his arm, yes. Did I think it was a "handball", no. His arm was in a natural postion, whatever that means.
Next year it will be a handball under rules changes.
