Mike Brey and his Fighting Irish kicked off ACC play in memorable fashion, taking down seventh-ranked Duke 79-77. These three moments were punctuation marks in the victory, only the fourth in ND’s series against the Blue Devils, and are brought to you by the ACC Network.

Thank you! It’s been a long time since Duke and the 1978 Final Four, but the memory still burns. We finally stuck it to those guys…

1. Brey did a GREAT job of getting this team ready for Duke.
2. Brey has the most talent he’s had to work with since he’s been there.
3. Most of these players were 3 and 4 star recruits coming out of high school and Jackson was 5.
4. These four star recruits (like Biedscheid) aren’t going to go for the redshirt idea.
5. Biedscheid had a solid freshman year and I think Brey mismanaged that situation badly.
6. Tom Knight tries hard but he was a two star recruit and plays like it. He’s a situation player.
7. Brey has to sart building Auguste’s confidence. He has the athleticism this team is going to need.
8. Somebody tell Sherman to stop dibbling or protect the ball better.

For those of us who were at Notre Dame during the heyday of Irish basketball, there is nothing better than beating Duke in basketball! The Blue Devils have been the epitome of excellence in hoops for several decades. Notre Dame has been striving to be recognized as their equal for many years. To beat Duke is to beat the very best! Some of us feel that it is just as important to be considered a national power in basketball as it is in football. This was a big step in that direction. Very impressive for a team that has been stripped of one of its best players!
