In reply to: Trump Says He’d Encourage Russia to Attack NATO Allies  posted by AquinasDomer

A selection of his Good News / Bad News items (his bias of course), in no particular order.

Good News
1. Trump doesn't really want to be involved in governing or ruling, he just wants to be the supreme leader
2. The majority of the radical stuff Trump stated he'd do during his first term, never actually came to pass.
3. Trump kind of actually got Europe to contribute their fair share to NATO (no doubt the current dysfunction in the US has done that as well).
4. Trump's erratic nature keeps our enemies off guard.
5. Trump is likely to focus on Gina / China.
6. Woke is overdone and cresting in Federal government, Trump will reverse that.

Bad News
1. The folks behind Trump who were doing all the work and implementing change have had 4 years or so to figure out how to better ram stuff through and get away with it this time around.
2. A radical withdrawal from UKR will only encourage Putin, China, and others in the new Totalitarian Axis of Evil; US credibility for key allies will plummet.
4. Trump is likely to de-legitimize and hollow out key experts in Federal government.
5. Trump will ultimately hasten the demise of the rules based order.
6. Dysfunction 3.0

Sullivan's political antennae make him a superb analyst of

Trump and Trumpism. He saw all of this coming already in the summer of 2016 when the Brexit referendum happened. He's lethal on liberal and Democratic complacency and tunnel vision. On the other hand, as a conservative of a very particular kind (Michael Oakeshott), he sees what is dangerous in the reactionary impulses of populists who yearn for a strongman -- in this case, a strongman who is mentally ill, as he said just the other day in his podcast.

The bad news is infinitely worse than the good news *
