BK’s response to a run game question during the presser that

I believe Mike Frank asked.

Q: Talk about the run game. Where is that?
BK: We have focused on getting the right players in the right positions. Our primary focus has been on consistency in our throwing game. And then as a group, without our defense, we’ve focused on the run game. As it relates to our offense against our defense, we’ve thrown the ball much more than we’ve run it because of those things that we’ve wanted to grow in. The spring game, we’ll get a better sense because we’ll run the ball a whole lot more and we’ll be who we have been. But it’s hard for me to say we’ve been so much better running the football without (Quenton) Nelson and (Mike) McGlinchey. We’ve been focusing on other things, quite frankly. We’ll get a better picture of that in the spring game.

Yes, because it’s so much better to practice the run game...

when there’s no defense on the field. It gives our running backs a more realistic sense of the wide open spaces they’ll be running through, especially when our opponents go with that zero-men-in-the-box look. Anyone with 67 years of head coaching experience will tell you that.

well, I mean, we run a ZONE scheme

so it's not like our backs have to read the blocks, where the defense is moving, etc.

We run a 1-3-1, and then punt on 4th and 5. *

issues and puts up a bunch of GIF's showing "+1 in the box" and other bullshit, this quote needs to be brought back up and discussed.

It's bullshit--we don't run the ball well because the head coach really doesn't see it as that important (relative to the passing game, of course).

Fresh ideas, new approaches, understands centrality of power running game.

This might be as close as we can get to the Kelly offense in its natural state.

that the coach who has obstinately ignored what should be and is a huge historical program advantage - and who should have had a thunderbolt 'aha!' moment after what occurred the first 2/3 of last season - is back to winging it.

it'd be like mercedes benz saying - 'yeah sure we have some great cars - but look at all of this pizza! We're gonna sell you some pizza - logic be damned!'
