Then why do the ADs seem so intent on cancelling?

If the rumors are true, it sounds like most ADs want to end this charade, but no one wants to be the first to do it. Why would the ADs *want* this if it could ruin their departments? Liability? I’m not questioning you, I’m just genuinely confused by so much of this.

At the end of it all it seems like liability. I know players

Are asking for any expenses due to covid to be covered. However, if there were to be any deaths or long term health conditions the lawsuits would be massive.

So many unknowns and we have already seen MLB struggle with cases. With so many CFB teams, it is almost inevitable there will be outbreaks. Especially with going out with friends etc.

the entire Atlantic region of Canada

(4 provinces) had 8 active covid cases today.

If we were looking at numbers like that or similar, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Come on- that's completely apples to oranges

The population of the Maritime provinces is about 2 million compared to 330 million in the USA.

Having spent considerable time in Prince Edward Island, which is where a number of my extended family members live and where my grandfather lived, I can tell you that it is almost entirely rural and sparsely populated, with the exception of Charlottetown (which itself is no booming metropolis). The percentage of Canadians who wear masks is reported to be lower than the USA.

Most likely not. In March I couldn't fathom there not being

CFB this fall. Our first High school scrimmage was to be this Friday. Wonder if the college cancelling will change that?

Playing three games and then cancelling is costlier

than delaying til spring, playing a reasonably full season, and then playing again in the fall. If you can still get two full seasons of tv revenue, you take it. If they fail in the fall, it’s going to be harder to tell everyone to go back in the spring.

probably something to do with the TV contracts

I'm sure that they'll still take a hit, but they'll take an even bigger hit not playing at all.

Playing would jeopardize the facade of amateurism *

I’ve heard this suggested.

That basically the ADs are choosing to sacrifice a year rather than admit this is semi-pro athletics.

couldn't agree more

about choosing no fall over admitting it is pro in reality and amateur in name only

wonder if they really can piece it all back together after losing 50-100M.
As above, my guess is spring football isn't workable. Partly because my guess things will not change significantly until there is some sort of vaccine, and then until it is reasonably widely distributed. Jan is as good of an optimistic guess for a vaccine as any and then early another month or two before the roll out is really pretty well done. So practice early March, games early April? Shortened season, end early June, start again late July?
I think some of the spring football idea hopes campuses will be better later in the fall, but what I see are schools sending students home before Thanksgiving because they don't want them coming back.

You have schools that are 100% online. It really isn't

a surprise that football could be completely cancelled in the fall. The administrations have bigger concerns. Attached is Michigan State article. They don't even want kids on campus.
