My memory of all of this is from the CBS broadcast of the game and CBS showing the player profile including hometowns. I remember one DB was from Florida. Maybe it was Pat Terrell?

Yes, I think Terrell was from Florida. Light was MeatChicken *

Terrell was from FL and sealed 31-30 v. Miami

In the final play of the 1988 Catholics v. Convicts, Pat Terrell (#15) knocked down the 2pt. conversion attempt to preserve the win. The pass was intended for Miami running back Leonard Conley (#28), who was also from Florida. The two had played against each other in high school.

Hate Miami now, beat the rush.

He also ran back an interception for a TD in that game.

Here he discusses his move from WR to DB as had Lyght moved from WR to DB, and Smagala, Francisco, and Southall had moved from RB to DB.

When people suggest we can’t recruit the ‘88 types anymore, I think of Terrell and his choosing ND over Air Force. After the NFL, he followed his dream and went on to be a commercial airline pilot. The typical ND student should hope to be as successful in life as the players from back then.
