Who Else? Some Thoughts.

In reply to: I think we need at least one dominant big  posted by IAIRISH

Context: When a "big" from the Class of 2020 arrives, Mik Vaughn will still have two years of eligibility in the low post. Hopefully, she'll use both of them.
(And by then, perhaps Danielle Cosgrove/coaching staff will discover if she's a post or the team's tallest 3-point spot shooter.)

That said, a tall drink of water like Marshall will have time to develop at her pace.

- ND and Kylee Watson once again have a mutual interest in one another. She's 6'2" and is something of a high post/low post tweener. It would be nice if she was a bit taller, but we did pretty well with the ND player she's most compared to...Natalie Achonwa. Watson hits the boards pretty hard and will do the dirty work, plus she has an accurate J up to the elbow.

- MPG and I have seen Muffet and staff look at Charles Oakley type bruisers like Naz Hillmon (now at Michigan) or Sydnee Roby (headed to Miami of Florida), only to look for slightly taller, more multi-faceted posts. So, I think that's the trend.

There have been some others who have been mentioned, but until they become a recurring cup of coffee, not worth bringing up.

Do you think MM will take both Marshall and Watson. Plus one guard. Or take both guards and 1 Post. Or even take all four. I think we only have room for 1 guard but could use both post players. What do you think???...

There's Room For A Number of Approaches....

At the projected start of the 2020 season (not counting walk-on Katy Cole or any transfers/graduate transfers), ND has 8 players on scholarship. Nine (9) if you include big guard/wing(?) Alli Campbell.

Four of those are low/high posters: Mik Vaughn, Danielle Cosgrove, Dani Patterson and Sam Brunelle.
- Brunelle's positioning next year bears watching. She often plays like a three in high school, but many project her (me, too btw) as a 4, like Kat Westbeld.

Five (inclding Alli C.) are guards: Jordan Nixon, Abby Prohaska, Katlyn Gilbert, Anaya Peoples and Campbell.

ND has been a guard-oriented offense for a few years (the wing is usually the biggest guard who can do some work inside, like Jackie).
If they stay that way, I see them going after a point guard and possibly another guard/wing to join Alli, plus one big.

However, if Brunelle plays wing, I could see that flip flopped: one PG, possibly two bigs.

My gut is Brunelle goes to the 4, we keep the three-guard approach and go after one big.

Gut order:
Big: N. Marshall, K. Watson
Point Guards/Guard-Wing: One will be a PG to learn from/spell the starting pg. As to the other, best possible?

So the Irish could seek to land 4 total prospects, bringing the total up to 12, plus Katie.

But the standards will stay high: if they don't get who they want, take 3 and come back with two in 2021.

Ok, second cup of coffee needed.

Thanks for the Info on Recruiting

Great Post Very insightful...Makes s lot of sense...I have known MM is a guard oriented team. It is frustrating some times to lose out on some of the best Post in the country. Now saying that...The Post we do get do an exceptional job...That comes from the coaches developing the players...I still think we are going to see some continual success at the High Low Post with Vaughn and Dani...They are developing very well...I also believe there is a lot of upside to Cosgrove that we have not seen yet...Her outside shooting for a post is great...Thanks for the insight on wear you see Sam possibly playing next year...Sounds like her position is key to the rest of the recruiting positions...Which goes on to MM recruiting quicker posts that can run...I like that...Do you know Watsons height...I have seen her any where from 6-2 to 6-4...I can see the need to stay at 1 post..Over recruiting this year could limit us to possibly 1 recruit in 2021...Thanks again for the info...Okay time to rest the weary fingers...theyre getting old...Ops they are old...

It’s really fun watching two good bigs play together. Bonus: it enables a terrific fast break.
