Good Points and Really Valid Concern

I voiced a similar concern following the BC game about our zone.

Will try to take a glass half-full approach this Monday a.m. and say that, "mission accomplished" against Pitt. Holding a team to 24 points in a half will do the trick. Yes, they came back to earth, but we limited the open 3's that were killing us in the 1st half.

Dara, unfortunately, is a weak point in man or at the top of the zone. Once we got that 10-pt. lead, Niele was doing the defense/offense switch with Anaya and Dara and ultimately just kept Anaya out. The trouble with that, of course, is one misses Dara's sizeable offensive contributions.

Let's see how Round 2 of BC is approached. Swartz constantly moves and Sonia, Anaya or Abby might have to take turns chasing her around the court. Dickens, on the other hand, largely just prowls the arc. Someone should be patient and just stick with her.

when you have an excellent shooter lined up in a shooting

location, even though it is highly instinctual and tempting to drop down to stop a driving player, you just have to trust that the interior players will handle it and not leave the shooter alone to help out. This is a difficult temptation to master. Takes a lot of self-discipline.

Kind of like defending the option in Football

To properly do that, you assign a specific defender to a each ball carrier. It often results in defenders actually running away from the ball carrier during a play.

Excellent point and involves

team/help defense, good
communication and experience
playing together which we
don’t have. In the words of
Muffet, “they are a lousy
defensive team”.

Good Point....

...sometimes Sonia and 'Liv will overcommit out of their designated areas and try to hurry back. The primo zone years came with very disciplined athletes....
