Pickford doing work for the Euros, apparently.

Frank De Boer will sink the Dutch regardless. *

Toffees should have ended that match down to 9 men. And I have no earthly idea how VAR ruled out the late winner.

And both VVD and Thiago getting knee scans. *

Today Fabinho became a center back.

Liverpool did not get the best out of Thiago on the left. He was great but the spacing with he and Fab wasn’t.

I think Fab and Matip will be first team for a while. Then Fab and VVD when he comes back.

Thiago and Henderson can play the six. Keita, Gini, Jones, Milner, Shaw and eventually Ox all available at midfield.

Unless VVD and Matip are fully healthy and they need a true DM, I don’t think we’ll see Fab in the midfield. I truly think he’s a CB moving forward.

Matip picked up a knock, of course.

Great timing for the start of UCL group play.

That would all but guarantee a Fabinho and Gomez pairing for Ajax. When I look at Fabinho I honestly see some similarities to Sergio Ramos. Both play with the versatility for right back, CD and DM. And while Ramos has a dead soul, Fab has certainly shown some bad assery in his day. The only thing I worry about is the durability in the EPL. Especially now when keepers are allowed to mug players without penalty. I don't really hate people, but if I did, Ramos would be right up on that list. But I give him credit as one of the greatest defenders of his generation. And I wonder if he could regularly deal with the physicality of the EPL.

But in Champions League, I have supreme confidence in Fab at center back. I truly think his career just changed.

Rumblings that it's VVD's ACL. *

Would be nice to have Grujic if Thiago is out for a bit.

Without him, Hendo and Gini will need to man the six.

I like Grujic, but...

I really can’t imagine a scenario where I have him in my midfield with the options they have. As you stated Hendo and Gini can play the 6. Yes Grujic is more of a classic DM than any of the other midfielders (and Fab of course). But I’d just as soon work a double pivot with my options (including Keita and Milner). And if I’m really getting to the point where I’m considering Grujic as my DM, I’m gonna probably go back to Fab and bring Nat Phillips to back up Matip and Gomez.

Of course the real scare is that Matip is almost always struggling with some lingering injury.

I will say this, Klopp always has contingency plans. But there really isn’t one for a long absence by VVD. They just went from an elite team to a good team.

I’m an Everton fan. Not a long-standing one...been avid for about 6 years. I have never seen a win in Merseyside Derby. Best results have been gutty draws. Worst getting worked by Liverpool u-21 team in Cup last year.

Nonetheless, I will be awake at 7:30a ET with 10% hope that Everton’s great start is confirmed with a performance tomorrow, and 90% fear that reality kicks back in with another drubbing. I hate that Villa ran it up on Liverpool before the break, as they will certainly be focused tomorrow.

Regardless, James’ left foot is by itself worth watching the season.

Best play of Pickford's career.

As soon as match load hits him, he's gonna be spending more time with team trainers trainers than in actual training. His post-Bayern interview was pretty telling with regards to his habits and commitment level.

This is exactly right

I was so excited when we got James in Madrid after the 2014 WC. Maybe being up in Liverpool will help him because Munich and Madrid night life were too much for him. It will manifest itself with calf problems and little nagging leg injuries that will keep him out for weeks at a time.

I will say, however, that his best Madrid year was with Carlito. That guy knows how to get the very best out of him. I never understood Madrid's impatience with Ancelotti. He did poorly in league but delivered a Champions. He also showed Zizou the ropes of how to be a big club manager. Not sure what went wrong at Bayern but I like him as a coach very much and the Madrid players (especially Cristiano and Ramos) love him.

Carlo at Bayern

Openly said you could win the Bundesliga at Bayern without breaking a sweat. He did not fit in with the player culture there, at all. They are all about training, pressure, hard work. Took 6-8 months for that to start to affect the team, but it did.

As a City fan I will be pulling for you *
