Notre Dame vs. WSU Preview

Authored By Mystery Guest Writer

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame take on the Cougars of Washington State in a Halloween SHOWDOWN the people of San Antonio, Texas have been DYING to see. Washington State brings its special brand of toughness that can only be forged in a town called “PullMan.” They also bring with them the kind of cockiness you can only find from a state that named itself after a President who never set foot within 2,000 miles of the area and died many years before the land that would become the state was even a part of the Union.

ND Offense vs. WSU Defense: Pure ND Domination. Bloodbath.

ND Defense vs. WSU Offense: Pure ND Domination. Bloodbath.

After this game, the toughest Cougar in the State of Washington will be Steve Sarkisian’s mom.

ND: 155 WSU: 0

Oh, and it will also be announced that the NCAA will punish Michigan for practicing too much by ordering that all of Michigan’s games will officially be SHORTENED by one minute – meaning that the final score of the our game is what the score was after 59 minutes … ND 34 UM 31.

Oh, part deux: And the NCAA will also penalize USC for Reggie Bush’s “extra benefits” by giving all USC opponents an TEN SECONDS of playing time if they want it at the end of games – giving us a chance to run the fourth down play we never got, but this time, in December, WITH MICHAEL FLOYD, and Pee Wee Peet Carol (whose last name is a girl’s name) will refuse to play because it will be too cold (“cold air makes me think of New England and that makes me cry like the little girl I am,” Peet will say), resulting in a USC FORFEIT!!

All of this means …. WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO 12-0 AND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GLORY!!

  1. MMMMMMMMMMMM. I love cupcakes, especially at this time of year. I'm personally on board for watering down the schedule until it has a ph of 7.0. In this day and age, it's all about the money. Let's stop pretending we are any different than the rest and just embrace this. Hey, WMU is a good, quality team. Next thing I propose is to go to 12 home games. We are getting close next year with only 3 at the campus of our opponents. 12 home games can't be to far away. Of course, we will have to schedule opponents like the University of Phoenix Online, but think about the money. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  2. CW should yank JC for DC after his 5th touchdown pass, all to different recievers, and not before – this is a mindset game that should set the dominating tone for the rest of the season – put the oxygen tanks away…I think we roll thru the rest of the year including a good win against Pitt – GO IRISH!!!

  3. Yeah, this is the kind of post that surfaces when the heavily-favored team fails to show up. Given our clear ability to do just that, I'd say yank it and replace it with the normal, well done pre-game breakdown.

  4. Really? This is what you give us? I concur with Stewart. This is a team that struggled against 3 mediocre teams (MSU, Purdue, Washington)and despite a 5-0 turnover margin against BC – still could have lost that game. Americans traditionally have short memories – apparently Domers have even shorter. Syracuse still lingers in my mind. We have now given 3 freshman quarterbacks banner days against us. I would like nothing more than a 56-3 win over Washington State; however, the line is currently ND by 28 – that's crazy talk. We will win this game, yet to win out will be a tall, tall order. Navy is 6-2 with its only losses to Ohio State (almost won that game) and a very good Pittsburgh team. Then we play at Pitt – if we play the game we played against BC, we lose this one by 14. Finally Stanford poses a real threat. Do we have the talent to win out? Yes. Can it be done? Yes. Do we have the coach to put it all together and pull it off? Doubtful.

  5. I assume we won't need our FG kicker, so it looks like Charlie goes for 2 on one of the twenty-two TDs.

Gotta get those style points for the pollsters, I like it.

  6. Short memory eh? MSU, Purdue and Washington are mediocre? You clearly haven't learned anything about college football in your lifetime. MSU nearly beat Iowa and beat UM, Purdue beat OSU, and Washington beat USC. These are teams that have the capability, like ND, to play win big games and fail. Look at Florida's games between Miss St and Tennesee. yes, they won, but barely. Must be the poor coaching.

  7. Bernie P. ND'74 says:

Awesome preview, Marco. I'll be in San Antonio Saturday night, guzzling the Nyquil!

For media, WSU players and fans, and folks on this board, remember that this is humor, so don't take it so seriously. Although I'd love to see the NCAA take action against Michigan and USC, we all know that is the most outlandish prediction that Marco has made. 😉

Seriously, I think the line of 28-29 points is too much. They have a QB who can throw the ball, so they'll likely put some points on the board. Additionally, Charlie never runs up the score (he had the chance in '05 and '06).

WSU is kind of where we were at in '07. I read an article that says they start 10 freshmen. My expectation is that they'll play their "A" game. They've got nothing to lose and plenty of incentive to show up ND.

If this was a narrow victory, we would drop out of the rankings. I expect that we don't cover the spread, but we win by 2-3 TD's.

    Go Irish!
    Go NDChooChoo!!!

  8. Yeah right…mysterious guest writer. No question this is Marco of NDChooChoo fame. I have missed you dearly

  9. If ND lives up to expectations, it will be classified as a 'garbage win' by a team with a weak schedule (the inaccuracy of that premise will be pushed far aside).

If we do not trounce them, all our wins become flukes.

And if (heaven forbid) we lose, it's Syracuse/08 all over again and the floodgates will burst.

Good thing its Halloween, because this game spooks me.

  10. It's obvious by some of the comments that either a) ND fans have lost their sense of humor; b) some ND fans are unaware of the great Marco; or c) both a and b.

Fun post, Marco! I suspect Jvan needs a little break anyway (I know I do). While I'm not taking WSU for granted, I could use a few ND football related laughs given the events of the last few weeks.
